OwnStarMap is a French company creating catalogue-based personalized star maps for meaningful moments.

Our story

It all started with a simple question: what did the sky look like on the day that changed everything? The day of a birth, a wedding, a meeting that transformed a life.

As a developer passionate about astronomy, I wanted to create a tool that uses public stellar catalogue data rather than a random field of decorative dots.

OwnStarMap grew from that idea: turn a selected date, local time and place into transparent, catalogue-based commemorative artwork.

IAU sky regions

The IAU recognizes 88 constellation regions; connecting lines are conventional artwork rather than official boundaries.

GMST

sidereal rotation

The current method uses Greenwich mean sidereal time, coordinate conversion, horizon filtering and stereographic projection.

Each OwnStarMap preview is calculated from the selected date, local time and location using fixed stellar catalogue coordinates. The current core renderer does not model solar-system objects, atmosphere, terrain or epoch corrections.

OwnStarMap is operated by the French company ROCKETDEV in Normandy (SIRET 890 214 380). Physical orders are prepared and shipped by external partners whose location can vary.

Accuracy first

We publish the catalogue method and its limits so buyers can compare the star layer with a planetarium using the same inputs.
