Senganen Garden

Senganen Garden, laid out in 1658 by the Shimazu clan, daimyō of Satsuma Domain, is a magnificent strolling Japanese garden spanning 5 hectares facing Kagoshima Bay. It integrates Sakurajima into its landscape composition, a technique called "shakkei" or borrowed scenery. The Iso Goten residence, built in 1658 and used by the Shimazu family until 1949, remains intact and bears witness to Edo nobility's grandeur.
Lake Ikeda

Lake Ikeda, the largest lake on Kyushu Island, is a crater lake formed 5,600 years ago in the southern Satsuma Peninsula. 233 metres deep, it is surrounded by tea plantations and offers a spectacular view of Mount Kaimon, nicknamed the "Fuji of Satsuma" for its perfectly conical silhouette. According to legend, the monster Issie lives there, a Japanese cousin of the Loch Ness.
