The Grand Master's Palace is a 16th-century palace that served as the residence of the Grand Masters of the Order of Malta and now houses the Office of the President of Malta. The palace occupies an entire city block in central Valletta and its sumptuous corridors testify to the bygone power of the Knights.

Upper Barrakka Gardens is a public garden perched on the bastions of Valletta, offering Malta's most spectacular view over the Grand Harbour, the Three Cities, and the Mediterranean. The lower terrace houses the Saluting Battery, whose cannons fire daily at noon and 4 PM, perpetuating a centuries-old military tradition.
