Shuri Castle

Shuri Castle, the former residence of the Ryūkyū kings from the 15th to the 19th century, is Okinawa's architectural jewel. Its red lacquered wooden buildings, adorned with dragons and unique tile roofs, reflect the mingled influences of China, Japan and the archipelago. UNESCO-listed in 2000 and tragically destroyed by fire in 2019, it is undergoing extensive reconstruction scheduled until 2026.
Kokusai-dori

Kokusai-dori, or "International Street", is Naha's main shopping artery, 1.6 kilometres long. Emerging after the war, it became the symbol of Okinawa's rebirth after the destruction of the 1945 battle. Cape Manzamo

Cape Manzamo, about an hour north of Naha, is a limestone cliff shaped like an elephant's head overlooking the East China Sea. Its name means "hall for 10,000 people": legend has it that Ryūkyū King Sho Kei declared it could seat 10,000 people on its lawn. The sunset here is one of the island's most spectacular.
