Can I preview before buying?

Yes! The creation tool is completely free. You can customize your star map, preview the result, and only pay when you're satisfied.

How long does it take to receive my star map?

The selected-format PDF is available from your customer area immediately after payment confirmation. Personalized posters normally take 3–5 business days to prepare and about 7–10 business days in transit; allow roughly 10–15 business days overall, with possible delays.

A price reduction or refund is available in the cases provided by law, especially if the remedy is impossible or fails.

Is the payment secure?

Yes, all payments are processed by Stripe, the global leader in online payments. Your banking details never pass through our servers.

What is a star map?

A personalized star map is commemorative artwork generated from a chosen date, local time and location. OwnStarMap rotates fixed coordinates from an HYG-derived catalogue, filters the geometric horizon and projects the remaining star layer. It does not replace a professional planetarium or astrometry tool.

Are the star positions accurate?

The current renderer uses fixed catalogue coordinates, Greenwich mean sidereal time, observer-based horizon filtering and stereographic projection. It does not model the Sun, Moon, planets, weather, terrain, atmospheric refraction, precession or individual stellar motion.

What occasions are star maps good for?

Star maps are perfect for births, weddings, anniversaries, first dates, engagements, or any important moment. It's a unique and personal gift that captures the beauty of the sky at a precise moment.

What formats are available?

We offer a digital download ($14.00) and printed posters in 4 sizes: US Letter, A2, 16×20 inches and 18×24 inches. All files are in high resolution.

Can I choose any date?

The editor accepts a four-digit date and provides a preview. Historical dates have additional epoch and civil-time limitations, so use a professional planetarium when a research-grade reconstruction matters.

How much does a personalized star map cost?

You can preview the design free. The current amount and presentation currency depend on the selected product and market; the final amount and currency are shown before payment confirmation. The digital deliverable is a PDF in your selected design format.

How accurate are personalized star maps?

OwnStarMap uses an HYG-derived catalogue containing 8,921 records. The renderer skips Sol, filters records below the geometric horizon and applies the selected shape boundary. It uses fixed catalogue coordinates, local sidereal time and stereographic projection; the published accuracy guide explains the limitations.

What is the difference between a star map and naming a star?

A personalized star map uses catalogue data to create commemorative artwork for a chosen moment. 'Name a star' services offer symbolic naming with no scientific recognition; the International Astronomical Union does not recognize commercial star naming. Both products are gifts, but they make different claims.

Do you offer a referral program?

Yes! OwnStarMap is the only star map service with a referral program. Share your referral link with friends: they get 20% off their first order, and you earn 1 point per purchase. With 3 points, you get a free digital star map (worth €12). With 5 points, 30% off any print or phone case. With 10 points, a free 30×40 cm printed poster (worth €39).
